Overcoming Adversity Through Muay Thai: Kevin Ross
Kevin Ross is a Muay Thai world champion with achievements that extend into training others, art, writing, and motivational speaking. But Kevin's journey to success is a story we as addicts in recovery are all familiar with. Growing up in the typical American middle-class lifestyle, he thought life was normal until his parents split up and Kevin’s world was upturned, which led him to cope with the stresses of life through drugs, alcohol, and also self-harm.
However, Kevin had always dreamed of being a fighter, and when he discovered Muay Thai, he was immediately enamored by the sport. Despite his fear of failure, Kevin’s fortitude proved to be his greatest asset. Through Muay Thai, Kevin found the strength and discipline to get sober and became wildly successful in the sport.
Nowadays, Kevin is retired from being a pro fighter and is a respected trainer who shares his passion for the sport with others. He's also an accomplished artist, author, and motivational speaker who inspires and motivates others to overcome their struggles and pursue their dreams.
Tenants of Crow’s Nest Ranch - Truckee, California, are offered the ability to train in the art of Muay Thai by local experts who are highly skilled and experienced in “the art of 8 limbs”. As we have stated many times, somatic therapies are as important as talk therapy for those in recovery, and exercise is one of the main pillars of ‘The Ranch’. Muay Thai is a therapeutic martial art with many parallels to the recovery process from addiction because it combines physical and mental stress, coordination, breath control, and mind-body connection.
More recently Kevin sat down with the Authentic Adversity Podcast about his journey. Enjoy.
